In generating employment and economic development, businesses generate resources that facilitate the establishment of sustainable and stable peace. There is, however, a complex relationship between business and peace. It has been proven that certain business activities in Colombia have indirectly or directly contributed to the armed conflict in Colombia and to human rights violations.
Norway has been heavily involved in peace negotiations and peace building in Colombia. At the same time the Norwegian development cooperation policy prioritizes “private sector development, agriculture and renewable energy”, and different private and public Norwegian enterprises have diverse commercial interests in Colombia. Therefore, it is pivotal to open for discussion and dialogue about the role and responsibility of Norwegian economic investment in environmental conservation and prevention of socio-environmental conflict, within the framework of a current peace agenda in the country.
Throughout the ninth version of "Together for Peace in Colombia", the panelists will be subject to a series of guiding questions that hopefully will create constructive dialogue and discussions about the role of business in the implementation and consolidation of socio-environmental peace in Colombia.
