In this eight version of “Together for peace in Colombia” we want to examine the link between the peace process and democracy in Colombia. What kind of democratic space exists in Colombia today? Can a strengthening of the freedom of expression, right to assembly, and political participation of historically underrepresented groups strengthen the peace process? Does the peace agreement from 2016 hold some of the answers to the democratic challenges of today’s Colombia? Or are other measures needed?
This year also marks five years of implementation of the peace accord between the FARC-EP and The Colombian State. Therefore, in the final session we wish to explore the current status of the implementation of the peace agreement. Furthermore, discuss how Norwegian and other international actors should contribute to its further implementation and more generally support the peace effort in Colombia.
