In his inaugural speech, Lula said he resumes his commitment to rebuild and unite Brazil. Bolsonaro, Lula’s predecessor, left a country with record-high deforestation rates, diplomatic animosities and economic growth predictions ranging from 0,64% to 1% for 2023. And although Bolsonaro is no longer in power, the Brazilian far-right have seats in both Congress and Senate, and still has the support of many Brazilians, as the terror attacks of 8th January indicate.
The Norwegian Solidarity Committee with Latin America (LAG) has invited Brazilian investigative journalist Leandro Demori to meet LAG's chairwoman Larissa Avelar and take a close look on the latest developments in Brazilian politics since Lula’s inauguration, as well as perspectives for the rest of the term. The conversation will be held in English.
